Naguelann Distillerie, established in 2014 by Lénaïck Lemaitre, is nestled in Languenan, near Saint-Malo, in the Brittany region of France. The distillery’s name, “Naguelann,” is a playful anagram of “Languenan,” reflecting its deep local roots.
Brittany shares a rich Celtic heritage with Scotland, and its climate and natural resources are well-suited for whisky production. Naguelann draws inspiration from Scottish whisky-making techniques, integrating them with Breton culture to create unique expressions. The distillery utilizes local grains, including Breton buckwheat, and employs a double distillation process using custom-designed alembics. Aging occurs in a variety of casks, such as ex-cider, Saint-Émilion, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon, Sherry, and Bourbon barrels, with capacities ranging from 40L to 200L.
Naguelann’s whiskies embody the spirit of Brittany, honoring its Celtic connections while contributing to the region’s burgeoning reputation in the global whisky landscape.
