Led by seventh generation viticulturist Eugenio Gatti, the wines of La Miraja represent some of the greatest expressions from Monferrato. The winery farms and vinifies beautiful Grignolino, and a small parcel of Chardonnay, but the feather in the cap for La Miraja is the small parcel of Ruché, which is the oldest planting in Monferrato of this gorgeous variety.  The estate itself is within the orginial Castagnole Monferrato from the 11th century which was retrofitted into a cellar in the 1400s. Once a year, there is also a tiny amount of Chinato that comes to the states with a base of beautiful aromatics from the Ruché – a true treat for any fan of Italian digestivos. The winery itself produces less than 900 cases of wine per year, so grab these rares gems if you see them.
