A pioneering winemaker in the region, Larry Mawby planted his first parcel in Michagan’s Leelanau Peninsula in 1973. Over time the realization that this region was perfectly suited for sparkling wine became more and more clear, and by the mid 1990’s the winery became exclusively dedicated to sparkling wine. A focus on Champagne-method wines from the Leelanau has expanded over the years, and Mawby now sources fruit for a lineup of Charmat-method bottlings from their own vineyards, as well as from like-minded growers in Michigan, California, and Washington State. Commitment to quality and environmentally-conscious practices remain steadfast from this charming producer Wine Spectator dubbed “Best Sparkling Producer East of the Mississippi
