Jean-François Mérieau is a fourth-generation winemaker who has revitalized his family’s estate in the Touraine region of the Loire Valley, France. Taking the helm around 2000, he set out to showcase the true potential of the local terroir. The estate spans approximately 35 hectares along the Cher River, featuring diverse soils like clay, flint, and limestone, and includes vines that are over a century old.

Committed to organic and sustainable farming practices, Jean-François cultivates a variety of grape types, including Sauvignon Blanc, Chenin Blanc, Gamay, Côt (Malbec), and Cabernet Franc. His meticulous vineyard work involves hand-harvesting and maintaining low yields to ensure the highest quality fruit. In the winery, he combines traditional methods with innovative techniques, such as aging wines in oak barrels, concrete eggs, and amphorae to enhance complexity and expressiveness.

Jean-François’s wines are celebrated for their authenticity and vibrant character, truly reflecting the unique terroir. His dedication to environmental stewardship and minimal intervention winemaking has positioned him as a leading figure in the Loire Valley. By embracing both tradition and innovation, he continues to craft wines that embody the essence of the region’s heritage and natural beauty.
