Born in Argentina to French parents, Patricio Gouguenheim’s love for wine started at the age of 7, when his father began to let him taste some at mealtimes mixed with sparkling water. No doubt this was a catalyst for him entering the world of wine later on life.
But it wasn’t until 2002, when Argentina went through an economic crash, that Patricio decided to enter the wine market at a time when everyone else was leaving. He found his dream winery in Tupungato, an old property with great views of the Andes mountains. Inside the winery contained a small number of concrete tanks, perfect for making high-quality, site-focused wines. It was the perfect location, so Patricio decided to abandon a successful career in finance to become a wine producer and start his family winery.
The estate vineyards are cultivated at an altitude of more than 3,600 feet above sea level, one of the highest estates in Mendoza. In a region that has a desert climate, snow melt from the Andes Mountains are carried by irrigation channels, through the alluvial soils.
