W. Dr. H. Thanisch
Mosel-Saar-Ruwer- The viticultural tradition of this family dates back to 1650 and the estate’s international reputation was first achieved in the late 19th century. Since 1895, when Katharina Thanisch (widow to Dr. Hugo Thanisch) took over the estate’s responsibilities, the business has been run by women. It is currently owned by Sophia Thanisch-Spier. The estate vineyards are all planted on extremely steep slate slopes, between 50-60% incline. It is not possible to work the land by tractor, and all work is done by hand. Thanisch is an iconic producer of Mosel Riesling and a member of the VDP, producing less than 5,000 cases per year by traditional craft.
